In case you think this is just sensationalist reporting, here is a report on the school from Center for New York City Affairs.

Interesting that in 2006 this school was intended to offer "intensive mathematics and technology programs that prepare students to succeed in fields in which racial/ethnic minorities are currently underrepresented." The small school aims to test their graduates into specialized mathematics and technology high schools. In peer-facilitated groups, students and teachers use the Be Present Empowerment Model "to deepen their self-awareness, identify their strengths, and develop their leadership skills."

The most important fields in which the students at this school were underrepresented were (1) actually showing up in class, (2) being quiet and paying attention in class, and (3) abstaining from threatening their teachers.
John, it is the breakdown of the family. No amount of money can fix this type of problem. Very sad, indeed! Donna
