"Is Obama Smart?"

From yesterday's Wall Street Journal:

(The comment Obama makes about himself is amazing.)

John,
Great Post,
I just hope the republic can last until 2012.

Mad Dog --
Thanks, but I had nothing to do with this post, I just put in the link.

Between the stock market and what's happening in London there does seem to be an apocalyptic feel in the air right now.

Someone from a major publication dared to question Obama's intelligence. The first (?) to say the emperor has no clothes. Calling Obama brilliant has been a sort of mandatory politically correct affirmative action rating adjustment.

Not only that the author has dared to question the intelligence of a prominent Democrat. Its more or less standard for the press to call prominent Republicans stupid: W Bush's intelligence was regularly questioned; I don't remember Bush senior's intelligence directly assaulted but who could forget the attack against him "its the economy, stupid".... and where is this attack today?; Reagan was painted as simpleton; Dan Quayle's awkward statements were put in lights to make him look stupid. What prominent Democrat has been similarly attacked by the press?

In general Democrats and the press tend to insult conservatives as stupid. This week I was listening to Margery Eagan call Tea Party members morons and Michele Bachmann an idiot. This is the ultimate irony because many Leftist ideas cannot stand up to logical analysis - and this is where most conservative commentators focus their energy. Conservative commentators may use derogatory terms (moonbat comes to mind) to describe Leftists, and also attribute negative motivations to Leftist policy, but I can't think of many examples of conservative commentators calling specific Leftist politicians, or Leftists as a group, stupid.

Ed--
Great analysis. You are 100% correct. I'm surprised the article didn't garner more attention, given how un-PC it was. And yes, it does -- simply by being unique -- highlight the hypocrisy of the left.
