I suppose the point I was making -- in a roundabout way -- was that Native Americans have a higher average IQ than blacks, yet on average seem to do worse, or at least the ones who live on reservations do. That doesn't make sense.

I don't really have any hard statistics to back this up, just what I've read about life on reservations, and my general impressions. I know there seem to be a lot of people who claim to be part Indian who are successful. (Elizabeth Warren!) But there are a lot who've stayed on the reservation, too, and that seems to be a surefire formula for failure. It cripples them, make them lazy and unproductive as well as unmotivated to improve their lot in life.

At the same time, though, Native Americans were never a highly intelligent group of people on average. When American settlers arrived a couple of hundred years ago, the Natives were very primitive. They didn't have any sort of advanced culture with more modern inventions comparable to the Chinese, Japanese and the West in general. Even today, with every opportunity available to them, they still do not generally value education and intellectual pursuits.

Many years ago I spoke with an educated Native American who broke away from the reservation culture. He told me that while Natives like to brag about how great they once were, there really wasn't that much to be proud of. He admitted to me that Natives only think of ways of improving their lives by first getting the government involved.bluffcreek1967noreply@blogger.com
