Tom Hardy, before and after

I recently saw Lawless on Netflix. It wasn't bad, even though it was completely predictable. Tom Hardy did an excellent job as the soft spoken, strong man of action. He exuded toughness and confidence and masculinity.

Yesterday, the NY Post ran an article about how Hardy claimed not to be embarrassed by some old MySpace photos of him that had recently surfaced. Here's one:

I agree: why should he be embarrassed? He looks like just a normal young guy who's hoping to get laid. Maybe he's not as attractive as he seems to think he is, but that's not unusual for a guy. And while he's not in the greatest shape, neither is he in bad shape.

What Hardy should be embarrassed by are his more recent photos, like this one --

-- since they make it obvious he's gone on steroids. Turns out all that masculinity is store bought.

If you look up Hardy on Wikipedia, you'll see he used to be a crackhead back in the late 90's and early 2000's. So, perhaps he is to be congratulated for having been clean since 2003. Or, maybe all he's done is substitute one drug for another.

When an athlete goes on steroids, it's cheating, and reprehensible. When an actor does, it's more just the equivalent of getting plastic surgery. But even though Hardy's not cheating, it still must be a little embarrassing for him that his masculinity isn't really his. This is why no one ever admits to juicing, just as no one ever admits to having had plastic surgery -- as commonplace as both are these days.

  1. yeah he definitely looks like he's juicing. His traps look superhuman on some pictures.

Here is a better picture of him when he was younger. Does look handsome here.

Yes, good-looking, but in an almost effeminate way. Note that in the "after" picture above he's trying to minimize his lips in an effort to look more masculine.

  3. Do women generally have bigger lips than men, white and black?

    I never really noticed.

I haven't noticed any correlation with blacks, but with whites, it's been my impression that homosexual men often seem to have fuller lips. Obviously, it's a far from perfect correlation.

  5. Quite possibly but given that black men have big lips at the same time as often being very masculine, I wouldn't feel that big lips really detracted from masculinity (though it might make a feminine looking man look more feminine).

I guess you looked into Tom hardy because his name is on the James Bond shortlist?

As I said I hadn't noticed any correlation with blacks, it's only something I've noticed about whites, whose features show more variance than any other race.

I looked into Tom Hardy because of that article that appeared in the NY Post a couple days ago; I was surprised by how comparatively wimpy he looked back then. Hadn't realized he was on the Bond short list. I guess he wouldn't be the first Bond on steroids, since Craig was too.

  7. Some women like pretty boys, maybe the more masculine women?

John, if you were told that in 6 months you will be the next James Bond would you hit the juice?

    Ha! You bet I would!

Honestly, I find the idea of juicing quite tempting. As I said, it's a lot like plastic surgery: a little embarrassing, but the results are usually positive, if you don't overdo it.

I think there may be something to your theory about the more masculine women sometimes going for pretty boys. It would make sense evolutionarily, especially if they were going to have daughters.

  9. Ha Ha! Same!

Well there is the sexy sons theory postulated by The Roissey. Why not sexy daughters?

I think the sexy daughters theory makes just as much sense.

  11. I don't know why I've never seen this before but I've got Warrior on DVD that this promo pic was taken for and his weight training regime is part of the DVD. Don't rubbish someone's hard work, he takes on roles and transforms his body accordingly without the use of drugs

Every Hollywood star who's ever transformed his body has gone on at length about how he's done it naturally, and his diet and workout regime, and almost all of them are obviously on steroids. It's all a big charade.

Yes, and Brad Pitt and Daniel Craig and Fifty Cent and Hugh Jackman and Chris Evans and Zac Efron and Henry Cavill etc all accomplished their miraculous transformations naturally too. Who knew how many super dedicated athletes there were in Hollywood who in middle age could pack on 30 pounds of muscle?

Believe what you want, several of them have training videos too.

At leastSylvester Stallone and Charlie Sheen and Arnold Schwarzenegger had the grace to admit they used PEDs.

  15. Show me proof that Tom Hardy was on steroids. Until then shut the hell up and stop with the lazy keyboard arm chair bullcrap.
I'm 53 and top off at 5"91/2.Two and a half months ago I weighed 161 pounds.Aftergoing through a bulking phase and adding more caloric intake to my diet and getting proper rest, I now weigh 192.I did full body workouts, three times a week, all compound exercises. My rep range was 8-12 per set. Outside of my meals which consisted of steak, chicken breast and fish and lots of veggies I took protein shakes and nothing else.
    I'm a relatively fast gainer.
I don't use chemical assistance and never will.
My traps blew up just from dead lifts alone though I would throw in an occasional dumbbell shrug.
That being said just hard work, diet and proper rest with a firm goal CAN produce results like Hardy.I can testify to that.

  16. Omg Tom hardy loves the juice, never seen before pic but he's fucking stupid taking drugs when natural look on men is sooooo much fitter.

I think Hardy's face actually looks better now, although I agree he did it on the juice, at least for that movie from which the picture above was taken.

Sometimes it seems when guys do a little bit of juice they look good. An example would be Brad Pitt in Tight Club or in Snatch. But then he didn't know when to stop, and continued on to Troy, where it was just too painfully obvious what was going on.
