A nation of immigrants

The other day Ed Gendreau pointed out:

"People always say 'We're a nation of immigrants' as a rationale to allow illegal immigrants to stay, find a path to citizenship, and so on. In other words, since we started that way, that path must be continued indefinitely. But aren't we are also a nation born of, and founded by revolution? And does that mean we should continue to revolt? Why work with a dysfunctional government?"

Indeed.

A few other thoughts:

We're a nation of slaveowners.

We're a nation of indigenous people-killers.

We're a nation of atomic bomb-droppers.

We're a nation of Jim Crow law-enforcers.

We're a nation of polluters.

We're a nation of people who drove many animals, like the buffalo, to near extinction.

Liberal logic demands….

  1. Turn their asinine expression around and wield it against them:

"We're already a nation of immigrants! We've done our fair share. It's time other countries took in the world's surplus."

Yes, other countries like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, the UAE, and Israel.

  3. Well, didn't ya know that America (the great) exists to meet everyone's (worldwide, it seems) dreams? Americans are known for their generosity, compassion, fairness, etc. Basically, these illegal immigrants just want to take advantage of our country's good traits. I question why we have immigration laws - we sure don't enforce them. We live in a time of insanity.

They want to take advantage of our country's generous welfare system etc, but at the same time want to revile it once they're here.

  5. I agree. They live in our country and are very entitled, having no problem telling their host country how to treat them. Like, hello, you're a non-citizen, therefore, be appreciative and a bit more respectful.
