The Sleeping Beauty Waltz

As long as this blog is on a music kick, let's include the Waltz from Piotr Ilich Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty ballet, another of the most beautiful pieces of music ever:

By most accounts Tchaikovsky led a somewhat tortured life; perhaps he was actually the thorn bird of myth.

I never saw Ken Russell's movie "The Music Lovers".
According to IMDB it is "The compelling and bizarre story of Tchaikovsky's life and music. In Ken Russell's own words: "It's the story of the marriage between a homosexual and a nymphomaniac." "

Guy -- That marriage was supposed to have been very brief, though. Although Tchaikovsky never got divorced from Antonina Miliukova, they only lived together for a very brief period and she later had three children by another man (according to Wiki). His homosexuality may have been the story of his life, but his marriage wasn't.

It's too bad for him he didn't live in San Francisco in the 1970's, but in a way it's better for us he didn't, because if he'd spent all his energy in the bathhouses he might not have composed all that beautiful music.

Coincidentally, Richard Chamberlain, who played T in the movie, also starred in the "Thorn Birds".

Guy --
His casting as Tchaikovsky was probably more appropriate than his casting as Father Ralph.
