How dumb is it to give someone the benefit of the doubt because he's handsome?

Here's a follow up to yesterday's post about whether it's fair to dislike someone because of his face.

A recent article from Yahoo News highlighted a second "hot mug shot guy," Sean Kory, on the left:

Jeremy Meeks, on the right, got a fair amount of publicity a few months ago when his mug shot appeared and he was touted as a potential model. Meeks is a gang member from Stockton, California who's spent time in jail for grand theft and most recently was arrested on weapons charges.

Kory was just arrested this past weekend. According to Yahoo News:

Sean Kory, a 29-year-old from Santa Cruz, was at the city's annual Halloween parade on Friday when police say he spotted [someone dressed as a Fox News reporter], voiced his opinion about the cable news network, grabbed the victim's microphone prop, proceeded to run the microphone on his crotch, and pummeled the victim with an aluminum tennis racket. The victim, who was not hurt, alerted police, who nabbed the suspect as he was attempting to flee. Kory was arrested and booked into Santa Cruz County Jail.

In other words, he's a complete asswipe.

Kory is remarkably good-looking, though, in a Johnny-Depp-as-Captain-Jack-Sparrow sort of way. Both men have the good cheekbones that blacks often have, but also have enough white blood (I'm guessing slightly over 50%) to give them blue eyes and sculpted features.

Two post ago, I gave a somewhat mixed reply to the question of whether it's unfair to dislike someone because of his face. This time, the answer is simpler: it's incredibly stupid to give the benefit of the doubt to a beauty (of either sex).

(And if you look at the comments after that Yahoo article, the most "liked" comments were those which  expressed disgust with the women who made gushing comments about the two men.)

That said, it's something we all do.

Beautiful women will always make a man's better judgment go haywire, and good-looking men, to a lesser extent, can do the same to women.

The good news here is that both Kory, 29, and Meeks, 30, should lose their looks within ten years. Dumb and impulsive guys generally don't take care of themselves, and if you don't pay attention to diet and exercise, you'll likely be a mess by 40.

You could call that poetic justice, in a way, but since justice delayed is justice denied, as they say, that conclusion would be inaccurate. The better news, I suppose, is that both of these guys are too moronic to take much advantage of their looks while they have them.

I just read the description of what he did then daydreamed for 5 minutes about being that reporter punching him.

He's just a bully who thinks he can do what he wants to people and it would be quite satisfying if somebody taught him a lesson.

Interesting how both of these hotties are mulatto. What's up with that? The Obama effect? Well, I think that's over now.

I saw other pics of the one on the right and he was really not that great looking - a garden variety light skinned black man. The one on the left is very handsome, though as you say, too dumb to do anything much with it.

Guys like Brad Pitt and Keanu Reeves who started out as pretty boys must have something going on upstairs, they've stayed on top for a long time now. And they haven't self-destructed.

I think I can explain the mulatto effect this way: blacks are more likely to commit crimes; but the general population is not going to think that the mug shot of a man who is mostly black is all that visually appealing. So, it's no coincidence that both of these guys are mulattos.

Not sure I'd use either Pitt or Reeves as an example of a brainy guy. Sometimes actors just catch on, and become popular, and it's not because of their intelligence. Listen to most actors being interviewed, and you'll see what I mean.

Oh, I wouldn't call them brainy. But they aren't stupid. There's a whole lot of choices in between. Certainly they are more intelligent than either of our two mug shot hotties, no?

I mean, Reeves is one of the richest guys in Hollywood due to his Matrix deal, and Pitt is (a) not poor and (b) bagged quite a beauty. Gotta have something going on.

No question they're rich and successful. I'd be curious to know their IQ scores though.

Just looking at the 2 mugshots again - those two could be fraternal twins. Remarkably similar looking.

About Pitt - well he is from a nice middle class Protestant family, dad ran his own business of some sort, like trucking. I'd say he takes after his parents in IQ - 110-120?

Reeves is from a crazy family but he himself appears to be (accent on the word "appears") sane - this is indicative of some intellect.

A lot of show biz types take drugs and end up very damaged. To reach age 50 and still be consistently employed shows some character.

They're both doing better than the Unabomber, who had a 170 IQ.

Yes, they do look as if they could be related.

I wouldn't disagree with your impressions of Pitt and Reeves.

My guess is that a lot of those show biz types were damaged to begin with, and that may have been why they were attracted to acting. It's a way of getting attention. I also think there are a lot more casting couch shenanigans going on than the public is aware of, and a lot of the actors who aren't established stars yet have to basically prostitute themselves at first to get work. And from what I've heard, this is true for men as well as women.

I think we're all doing better than the Unabomber. Regarding whom, I think you'll find the following interesting:

http://justnotsaid.blogspot.com/2012/10/ted-kaczinski.html

He was a mathematician, not a social scientist, yet his analysis of Leftism is absolutely brilliant.

Taken separately a lot of Kaczkinski's ideas were spot on. Together they added up to insanity. Weird, eh?

I agree with both of your observations about show biz. I think the casting couch is even more prevalent for men than women, now, because Hollywood really is run by gay men. I do not think that's an exaggeration or a lie. I could BS you and claim that I'm in show biz, but I'm not. I base that on factual observations and Jesus, I think it's as plain as the nose on your face.

It's like saying that water is wet and Detroit is a dump.

PS I just read the Unabomber analysis of Leftism. He is describing Lena Dunham to a t. It is brilliant.

Yes, I never got his Luddite-ism or the way he pick this targets or what he thought he was accomplishing by trying to kill them. I also think he was pretty clearly schizophrenic and that he should have entered some sort of insanity plea. A lot of sane people (almost always sociopaths) claim to be insane to get that not-guilty-by-reason-of-insanity plea, Kaczinski seems to have done the opposite.

And yeah, I was stunned when I read that part of the manifesto.

I'm looking at Stupid Sean and wondering whether his white blood is recent. The name Sean is kinda white....

Anyway, about Kaczinski, I sympathize totally with his loathing of American society but I think as they say, he took it too far. Have a look at this dude, a harmless version of Kaczinski:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Y1doWcfHOc

He is stupid not to take his well-earned SS bennies. & he's living in a dangerous environment. But he may be happier than many a man living The American Dream.

You're probably right about Kory, he probably has one white parent. Actually, you've made me think he's probably one of those light-skinned, middle class blacks who feels the need to prove his street cred/blackness, so occasionally does stupid things like the actions described. The fact that his victim wasn't really hurt indicates he probably didn't mean to hurt him, and the fact that he happened to be carrying an aluminum tennis racket means he was probably on his way to or from a tennis game, not a sport a lot of the brothers in the ghetto play.

I took a look at that video. Yes, he's stupid not to take his SS check. And he's not only in danger from local hoodlums, in that open lean-to he's also liable to get stung by a scorpion or bitten by a rattlesnake, both creatures active at night. He's got to be off his rocker a little even though he sounds sane.

You know, I looked at the pics again and although I do think there is an uncanny physical resemblance, when you look at their eyes, you see a huge difference.

Sean actually looks like a sweet guy. (OK, you're gonna say I'm a ditzy female.)

Jeremy looks like an affectless psychopath. Look at the look in his eye - there is none. He appears to be the kind of person who would punch your face and then he'd go off and smoke a blunt. And look at his prior record.

Sean doesn't seem to have had a prior record. I think he was high and his inhibitions were lowered due to holiday revelry, etc.

Actually, I agree with you. I understand middle class blacks who feel they have to prove their blackness, and Sean's crime really wasn't that bad; he's just a buffoon. But Meeks is a gang member, has done time for grand theft previously, and he was up on weapons charges, all of which makes him sound like a serious criminal. I'd want to know more before I branded him as a sociopath, but I can see why you say that.

I was thinking that I'm wasting time on this nonsense - so, before we wrap it up, I did learn something. When I first saw those mugshots I thought they were fraternal twins. Then I looked again and saw how different they are. Always look again & pay attention to the expression in the eyes. (Among other things.)

British humor: "No matter how appalling his alleged crime of assaulting a man with a tennis racket on Halloween may be..."

Yes, buffoonish, not really bad. And it was on Halloween.

I looked up his FB page. A lot of his friends are white. Make your own conclusions. I say he's faux black, and not much of that. Good luck to him. I was young & foolish once, too, although most of my offenses consisted of throwing up in the wrong places.

The eyes can be telling, but there's so much variation from photo to photo that just one snapshot can be misleading, too. One further thing that occurs to me, Kory looks boyish while there's something vaguely effeminate about Meeks' face.

Faux black, well put, Why he has to make an effort to price he's black, I guess. Especially coming from a place like Santa Cruz, which is basically a hippie hangout.

Ha! Throwing up in the wrong places, while not criminal, does go under the category of young and foolish. Where do you live now?

PS -- If you find it interesting, it's not a waste of time.

I live on the Internet and in a secure undisclosed location where Rusyns are, if not predominant, not unknown. :)

You've got me interested in the Unabomber. I am reading his manifesto. It's interested stuff, far better than Anders Breivik. He was smart but not in Kaczynski's league.

Wow, well if you get to the part where he explains why he's a LUddite and why he chose the targets he did, please explain to me.

I can't believe all the ignorance in this thread. A. who still uses the term mulatto? B. light skin and eyes doesn't automatically mean a person is mixed with white. These guys very well may be multi-racial but no feature is exclusive to any one race, it's just a matter of prevalence. For instance, the black people of Oceania (Solomon Islanders, New Guinea) who look like many blacks in Sub-Sahara West Africa have a blonde hair mutation an arginine-to-cysteine change at a highly conserved residue in tyrosinase-related protein 1 (TYRP1) this blond hair mutation is very different from the mutation that causes blonde hair in those of European descent. The gene mutation called OCA2 causes blue eyes is mostly found in western Europeans but the gene is found in black Africans that have no white ancestry. Granted the majority of black Americans have some white European ancestry just because a black person is light skin with light eyes doesn't inherently mean they have a white parent. Blue eyes are recessive you can have two brown eyed black American parents that carry the recessive blue eye gene from generations back and pass it on to their children.

Also this ridiculousness of equating blackness with criminality. 99.9% of blacks are law abiding citizens. If you reverse crime statistics less than 1/4 of 1% of black males will commit a crime so why are you all equating blackness based on .025% of the black population? 6 out 10 violent criminals are white males according to the FBI UCR, the majority of crime committed is by whites but no one equates whiteness and crime. And I know per capita black crime rates so don't bother.

Well....apparently your wrong about Jeremy because as of right now he's been creating quite a successful modeling career. I'm guessing he'll probably take care of himself and be looking pretty damn good at 40! Ha!

Jeremy Meeks has been in the news. He's apparently had an affair with a rich gal named Chloe Green. Who knows if his marriage will last. The man is a fashion model (anyone can be a model these days). I tend to regard him as a sociopath, an adult sized juvenile delinquent.

Yes, I was those article about him, how he was spotted with that daughter of a multi-billionaire.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's a sociopath, though I certainly don't know enough to say.

I read a celebrity gossip site almost daily. There was a post about Chloe Green and Jeremy Meeks. One commenter stated that Jeremy Meeks has a sagittal crest which denotes criminality. The commenter said to steer clear of people with sagittal crests. I personally have never liked this guy's looks. He comes across as a moron who snagged a rich woman (rich by way of her dad). I then recalled your posts about sagittal crests.

Birdie --
Thanks for making that connection. I just Google-imaged him, though, and didn't really notice any discernible sagittal crest on him. Also, the correlation I made was with guys with sagittal crests who are really jacked, and Meeks is actually kind of wimpy-looking in a lot of his pictures.
