"Hollywood: beyond the pale"

The NY Post ran an excellent editorial a couple days ago about the brouhaha over the exclusively white Oscar nominees for best actor, best actress, best supporting actor, best supporting actress, and best director.

Mostly, they pointed out Hollywood's hypocrisy in criticizing everyone else for their "racism," but then allowing this instance of "racism" to slip through.

My first thought when I heard about this was that Hollywood will make up for its slip by nominating at least two or three black actors next year, whether or not they are deserving.

Almost just as surely, there will still be zero Hispanic or Asian nominees for any of the acting awards. (And by "Hispanic," I mean, of Amerindian or Mestizo descent, like the vast majority of Hispanics, not someone with a Spanish surname who looks like Antonio Banderas.)

Hollywood is extremely uncomfortable not including blacks. Just as they are extremely comfortable ignoring Hispanics and Asians.

I was watching good will hunting a while ago and I noticed something interesting. In the math lecture theatre, at Harvard, there are a huge amount of black extras. They would be underrepresented there irl, not over-represented. Just found that interesting.

Steven --
Interesting, and also very, very typical of the way Hollywood likes to portray things.

As Steve Sailer is wont to note, for purposes of the "conversation about race" in the United States there are only two races: black and non-black.

Or, black and white. Yellow and brown really aren't part of the national "dialogue" on race. Sometimes I think it's by design. The existence of the yellows resale gives the lie to how "racist" whites are.

Also, the presence of Hispanics puts the lie to the idea of concern for minority performance. There are already at least twice as many Hispanics as blacks in the United States, and yet very seldom is anyone decrying the lack of Hispanics in film, television, Silicon Valley, etc etc. It really is strange how the entire focus is on blacks.

Yes, it is.
