The economics of the Cantor - Brat race

David Brat's upset victory over Eric Cantor for the Republican nomination in their Virginia House race has garnered a lot of publicity in the past 24 hours.

Brat spent $200,000 in his entire campaign, whereas the Cantor campaign spent over a million dollars in just April and May, and $5.5 million overall. In fact, the Cantor campaign spent $179,000 on steakhouse dinners alone.

That's really all you need to know about the race to know that the good guy won.

I just hope that our citizens keep on electing the "good guys". You get so sick of the dishonest ones (and all of their shenanigans).

Amen. And bravo to all the Virginians who came to their senses and voted the right way.

As a hose head in Canada I hate to be the party pooper...but I think it is too early to cheer, boys.
Any half wit hare lipped retard can get elected but it takes strength and character to do the job well. I hope your man has it because Americans need people like that more than ever right now...

True -- it's harder to do the job well than to get elected. But we know that Cantor was a whore for big business, and would have caved on immigration, whereas Brat seems to be a guy who stands up for the middle class over the elites who want cheap labor, and I like his stance on lobbying (he feels it's an invidious influence).
