Looks can be deceiving, but….

…..really, would you want to have to look at this face for four whole years?

Jeb Bush just looks too soft to be President. There ought to be, along with a threshold IQ requirement, some sort of toughness quotient that all Presidents have to meet. Maybe an oldster's version of a two week boot camp, something like that.

Jeb looks more as if he belongs at fat boy camp.

This just isn't a visage which would command fear or respect from our adversaries. Vladimir Putin would look at that Porky Pig Face and laugh.

I know, you can't judge a book by its cover, etc etc. And this is not an entirely serious post. And for all I know, Jeb Bush may be the toughest hombre around. ("Hombre" being the applicable word here, given that in 2009 Bush actually listed his ethnicity as Hispanic.)

But in truth, people do react to others' appearances. And Jeb looks like the kind of guy who would….actually enjoy attending a corporate retreat. The kind who'd bore you to tears at a party.

Michelle Malkin recently anointed Jeb the US Chamber of Commerce's Waterboy, which seems accurate. He certainly looks the part.

In fact, while writing this, I realized who Bush reminds me of: the Ned Beatty character in Deliverance:

Call me superficial, but Squeal-like-a-pig-boy with the eminently punchable face isn't getting my vote.

I agree with how you sized up Bush III, but if he wears vertical stripes, picks Chris Christie as his waddle mate, and faces off against the expansive Hillary Clinton in the general election, Jeb will seem like Jack LaLanne by comparison.

Ha! Very true.

(On the other hand, Christie, as corpulent as he is, at least gives the impression of being tough. Jeb does not.)

As a Floridian, Jeb was an excellent Governor. He fought the fights that were necessary and seemed to not fall prey to the big attorneys agendas. I appreciated him being here, and would love to see what he can do for the grand old U.S. I'll take him over a Clinton any day!

I won't argue with his record as Governor, to tell the truth I'm not that familiar with it. But I do have a pretty good sense of what he's proposed as a Presidential hopeful, and I don't like it. He's far too pro-immigration, he's too hawkish on the Middle East, and the fact that he's attracted the big bucks from the big donors (all of whom have their own personal business interests in mind) suggests that he can be bought (sorta like Obama, who kowtowed to his donors).

That said, I'd take him over HIllary as well. But there are several Republicans I'd take over him, starting with Rand Paul.

John - Of course you can judge a book by it's cover - to a certain degree. If I go to a magazine shop and purchase "Swank" I kind of know what I'm getting without having to flip through the pages.

Valid points! I prefer Rand Paul myself, and yes, unfortunately I think his personal family history is why he is so pro-immigration. That is too close to home for me as well, as I firmly despise my hard working dollars to go to free housing and care for illegals, not to mention the crime rates they bring.

Ha!

True enough. And those magazines are usually encased in plastic anyway to prevent people from flipping through the pages.

Yes, and the idea that he would classify himself as Hispanic makes one wonder. (He later claimed it was a mistake, but I still have to wonder.)

He's Hispanic the same way Rachel Dolezal is black.

Jeb has the condition known as "punchable face". It's a condition that is different from being merely ugly or weird looking or pathetic looking.

He has "punchable face" from all angles.

He's far too pro-immigration, he's too hawkish on the Middle East, and the fact that he's attracted the big bucks from the big donors...

That's what Steve Sailer calls - "Invite the world, invade the world, in hock to the world."

Horrible strategy but the "elites" want it.

Ha, yes, that's exactly what I think when I see his face -- I want to punch it. I figured that reaction was something unique to me, so I didn't mention it, but yes, that's exactly what it is. And you're right, he's not ugly or weird looking or pathetic looking -- he's just punchable-looking.

In fact, now that I think of it, "punchable face" seems to mean a combination of being slightly pig-faced, soft-looking, and simultaneously looking very pleased with oneself. At least, that's what seems to spark that reaction in me.

And yes, this guy is McCain II. No thanks.

I don't want another Bush and/or another Clinton in the White House. We need a President who will lead our country in a saner direction. These two are too liberal. They would lead us further down the rabbit hole.

Before I read the post I tried to decide what I thought of him from his picture (I didnt know who it was). He just looked to me like an average American guy and maybe good humoured. I think he's fairly good looking actually, though a bit overweight.

But then this guy was nearly our prime minister. He got a lot of crap form the media about not being leadership material. I think the Putin point was even brought up.

I wouldn't call Bush good-looking; he's got relatively even features, but he's far too pig-faced and soft-looking.

The guy you point out looks more nerdy, and he has a mouth that's almost prehensile.

I think I'm going to stay home on election day.

I was a delegate for Ron Paul the last time, but Rand is not his father not to mention his immigration policy.

John Craig said...

Allan --
I see Rand as a watered down version of his father. For that reason he's a little less attractive, but for the same reason, a little more electable. (Not that I think he has a serious chance, but he'd still be my first choice among the Republican candidates.)
