My exciting life

Had dinner with a couple of friends Friday night. One had recently been in a nightclub in Moscow, and without any prompting from me, he confirmed my observation about the Russians: "They are tough people." He shook his head, and said again. "Tough...Tough and nasty."

There are three of us who get together (this is the other guy) once every six to nine months, whenever the jet setter is in town. He leaves in two weeks for Dubai, and possibly Africa, then India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Indonesia (to visit a girlfriend), and finally Hong Kong (to party).

While he's going to all those places, I'll also be taking trips…..to my local Y, and to Stop & Shop.

I always tell this guy that I live vicariously through him.

I'm not so sure, though, that my feeling is actually vicarious enjoyment. A more honest characterization might be just plain old envy.

I usually leave these dinners thinking about how acutely circumscribed my own life is these days.

However, you should think of it this way: if I led a more exciting, fulfilling life, I wouldn't have time to keep you informed about the latest fashions.

I have a feeling you are exactly where you want to be. Most people are. They just don't realize it. wrj

You're right; I'm basically happy with my lifestyle. It's only when it's held up for comparison with someone leading a more exciting life that I feel deprived; and that feeling never last for too long.

WRJ……WRJ…..do I know you?

I guess if you wanted to, you could travel a bit, spend winter in Goa or maybe Thailand. Its cheap as hell; you can live like a king, go swimming every day, do you trading on a laptop in a beach hut.

Sounds sort of appealing. But I've already spent enough time on beaches in my life, and generally find them boring after a couple days.

ha ha miss the fashion stories,

hey you need to write an article on Yoko Ono, not her fashion just working out what the hell is wrong with her?

I am overdue for a fashion story. I guess recycling that old one was the lazy man's version of doing a new one.

Here's my article on Yoko Ono, but it's not about what's wrong with her, it's about what's right with her:

OK. Did you enjoy it?

Ha ha...yes

No, you don't know me. I found your blog and enjoy the topics you choose to write on. Keep up the good work!

You probably have me confused with Winnie Ruth Judd. That's not me.

Thank you very much.

And actually, no, that name definitely doesn't ring a bell.

John-get an RV and hit the open road.

If I had the $$$ and the time, I'd have an RV, a motorcycle, an Internet connection and no permanent address anywhere, at least for a few years.

Could you imagine living in the desert southwest in the Winter and Montana in the Summer? Dude I'll ride shotgun with ya'!

You're on!

Actually, although it sounds appealing, I've found that sort of thing tends to pall quite quickly. I drove across the country and back in March/April of 2013, and wrote about it here. Looking at scenery is thrilling for about two minutes; after that, it becomes sorta like, okay, what's next?

John-You do give off the impression of living almost a monastic life. I'm not sure if you're living up to your fullest worldly potential. But then again, what do I know. Brian

There you go everybody (or, at least, anybody who reads this) -- Brian is a guy who knows me from my hometown.

Brian -- I'm happy you have that impression.

PS -- You sound like my parents did all through my childhood, telling me I wasn't living up to my potential.

If you get a chance you should look her up. Winnie Rurh Judd is an interesting historical study as far as female sociopaths. Of course, she has supporters who believe she was set up and was actually the victim. Overall, an intriguing piece of history and one which we may never find all the answers.

Just read the entire Wiki write-up on Judd. It seems there was some doubt about her guilt, or, at least, whether she did it alone. And there wasn't anything about her life once she was paroled. I'm not entirely convinced -- at least from what I read -- that she's necessarily a sociopath. If she was just helping Jack Halloran, then she may not have been. Of course, if she was acting alone, then she almost certainly was. (I didn't get a strong feeling one way or the other from the Wiki article.)

I have to admit, I didn't buy the insanity defense for her though.
