Filial respect, Part III

I had a typically mature argument with my son yesterday about who has the fitter body. When I pointed out that I have more definition, he retorted, "Dad, what you call definition is just wrinkles. Every time you get a new wrinkle, you're like, hey, look, more definition! The best definition you have are those crow's feet around your eyes."

The other day my daughter pointed out that I have to get a new photo for my blog. (It's the only digital picture I have, a "selfie" from three years ago.) I asked her what was wrong with it, and she said I looked like a "sketchball."

When I asked what that was, she said, "A sketchy character." She expounded further, "You look like a teenage girl who's trying to look soulful."

In fact, when I snapped that selfie, I had not been trying to look like a soulful 19-year-old girl. I was actually trying to be expressionless, since most poses end up looking calculated.

So, I'll probably change the photo sometime soon.

Nothing I can do about those wrinkles though, other than referring to them as 'definition."

On the upside, your children are intelligent.

On the downside, they are using it to abuse you.

and yeah lets see some photos of that definition.

I can hardly see you on that.

and perhaps a couple from when you were young to satisfy our curiosity. :-P

Ha! Yes! I'm being abused, I'm an abused father, maybe I can get some court to hear my case.

I was mostly putting this post up for humorous purposes, don't know if I'll even get around to getting another picture. And there definitely won't be any body shots.

Actually, here's a picture from '09 that shows a little definition:

(I'm not as short as I look there, I'm 5'11", but I'm barefoot and the guy in the foreground is 6' 6".)

The old 'guy in the foreground is 6' 6' one. ;-D

You sure look different on that to on your blog photo.

You look better on the swimming photo I would say so maybe the blog one is not such a good picture.

Thanks -- I guess. I'm also five years older than when that picture was taken, so…..we'll see.

I found a picture of you on google search (based on swimming picture).

What?? Those are all pics of Andre Agassi. Not sure if that's a mistake or a joke about my shaved head at the time.

If you Google "John Craig swimming" my blog picture comes up, and also a picture of a dark-haired younger gay-looking body-building type in a bathing suit who is definitely not me.

I googled it and I got a guy with downs syndrome from the special olympics website. Seriously.

I thought you looked a lot like Agassi on that photo on the swimming article. I wasn't joking.

I don't think I look much like Agassi other than the shaved head, but okay.

Steven said...

You probably don't but on that photo you do imo.

Of course, I could judge it better if you uploaded a clear photo. Just saying.

I've just finished reading the noblest guy I've ever known and the strongest guy I've ever known. I love those posts. I've read intelligent and tough before. Any more?

Thank you very much. There are two more: the coolest guy I ever met, from early July '09, and the most famous guy I ever met, from early August '09.
